This recent appellation was decreed on October 17th 1975, the maximum yield is normally 50 hl/ha. A subtle, delicate Crémant de Loire. The quality of our Crémant de Loire has made this wine more and more popular both in France and Overseas. 60 % Chardonnay, 20 % Chenin Blanc and 20 % Pinot Noir.
Subsoil type
The native soil of Crémant de Loire is constituted mainly of chalky subsoil called 'tuffeau'. Its is the land’s ability to store heat by day and diffuse it by night that is the over riding factor in the wine’s quality.
Vinification
Hand harvested, pressing of the entire grapes of the year. Yield : 150 kg per hectare. Separated vinification of the juices of first and last pressing. Control of the choice of yeasts. Blending made with 100 % of wines of the first pressing of the year which come from the best local vineyards. Traditional slow fermentation in bottle. By regulation there must be a minimum of one year ageing. Gratien & Meyer however allow over 3 years for its Crémant de Loire.
Tasting notes
Wonderful as an aperitif, it may also accompany a variety of meals, particularly well matched with fish and shellfishes.
