Type of wine :
A fruity, full-bodied oak-aged red wine, made from grapes grown in our own vineyard. Every step of the wine-making process from grape harvest to bottling is safely in our hands.
100% Cabernet Franc.
Subsoil type :
A chalky subsoil, known locally as "tuffeau". Size of vineyard: 13 hectares. The quality of our Saumur Champigny is heavily influenced by the tuffeau soil, which stores the warmth of the sun by day and releases it again by night.
Vinification :
Grapes are harvested green in July to reduce the yield. The grapes are completely destemmed and pressed. The skins and juice are left to macerate for three weeks prior to fermentation in stainless steel vats in a temperature-controlled environment (at around 28°C). Malolactic fermentation follows. Once the wines with the best structure have been selected, they are matured in 228 litre oak casks from December until bottling in July.
Tasting notes :
Shimmering ruby-red colour. A distinctive bouquet, dominated by red berries (currants, raspberries, plums), vanilla and spices. A balanced palate, fruity with silky, rounded tannins and a lingering finish. The ideal weather conditions in 2002 gave this vintage an excellent structure that makes it suitable for cellaring for several years. Serve at room temperature (16-17°C). Perfect with red or white meats and cheeses.
